Survey reports and mitigation plans are required for development projects that could affect this particular protected species, as a prerequisite to obtaining planning permission. Great crested newt surveys need to show whether great crested newts are present in the area or nearby, and how they use the site. Then a mitigation plan should detail how to avoid, reduce or manage any negative effects to the protected species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We carry out pond\u00a0surveys, to determine the presence or absence of great crested newts and the population size. Great crested newt surveys should be carried out between mid-March and June.
