The British National Vegetation Classification, or NVC, is a system of
classifying natural habitat types in Great Britain according to the vegetation they contain. the National Vegetation Classification (NVC) provides a much-needed common language in which the character and value of the vegetation of Britain can be understood. It is a system used not only used by the nature conservation and countryside organisations, but also by local authorities, non-governmental organisations, major industries and universities.
The NVC, can be used to develop guidelines for particular monitoring programmes.
