Dates: 18th – 19th May
Cost: £175
Place: Rainton Meadows NR and Hedleyhope Fell NR, Tyne and Wear and County Durham
Course aimed to gain experience and confidence in identifying indicator plants species used in Phase 1 habitat Survey. The course will mainly be field based. The first day will focus on grassland habitats and the second day on heathland habitats. The Phase 1 Habitat Survey can be used as a first approach to habitat assessment and could be a very useful tool to prioritize habitats and decision making.
We will be using the Phase 1 Habitat survey handbook and the FSC Phase 1 habitat guides for grasslands and heathlands as our main resources. Also, we will use The Wild Flower Key book by Rose and O’Reilly and Plant ID by Collins.
Learning outcomes:
Confidently identify the main phase 1 indicator plants used for neutral, and acid grasslands
- Confidently identify the main phase 1 indicator plants used for wetlands, and heathlands
- Practice plant identification of other species that might help in habitat classification using Phase 1 Habitat codes.
- Learn what plant identification resources are available to help you.
